HK: Information Infrastructure Expo Kicks offThe Hong Kong Information Infrastructure Expo & Conference was kicked off Thursday, providing public and professionals with a rare opportunity to experience the latest achievements and future trends in the sector.This year's expo has expanded notably compared with its launch three years ago, confirmed Hong Kong's fast emerging status as the Internet and e-commerce hub of the region, said Michael C.C. Sze, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council at the 4-day expo's opening ceremony. The expo has been changing with times to reflect prevailing trends in the industry and the marketplace, Sze said, noting that emphasis of this year's expo, to highlight the crucial role of education, is placed on 'e-learning.' Another strong focus is the technology showcase, featuring home-grown technologies and innovative hi-tech products developed by IT start-up companies, local universities and the Hong Kong Industrial Technology Center Corporation. Other themes of the expo include e-Government & infrastructure, Internet services, integrated telecommunications, e-commerce, portals & Internet content providers, software & multimedia products, and the global IT community. There will also be a series of conferences, symposia and open sessions, at which renowned international experts will share their insights into Hong Kong's development as the cyber hub of the region. A total of 270 exhibitors participate in the expo this year, coming from the Chinese mainland, the United States, Canada, South Korea, Malaysia, Finland, Holland and Isreal. On display is a wide array of the latest IT products and services, from software applications for network computing, multimedia and imaging to WAP mobile communication, Internet products and smart-card technology. |
