HK, Philippines Sign Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Republic of the Philippines signed an agreement Friday concerning mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, said a government press release.

The Agreement was signed by Secretary for Security, Regina Ip, on behalf of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and Secretary of Justice, Hernando B. Perez, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines.

The Agreement concerning Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters (MLA Agreement) with the Government of the Republic of the Philippines is the tenth of its kind that the HKSAR has signed on international co-operation against crime.

The MLA Agreement contains all the essential features and safeguards for international agreements of this type.
