UNDP Signs Memorandum with China Charity FederationThe United Nations Development Program (UNDP) signed a memorandum of understanding with China Charity Federation (CCF) Friday, as a basis for close collaboration on poverty alleviation and disaster control.According to the memorandum, CCF and UNDP will join hands in improving poor people's living condition, education and health care as well as fighting against AIDS and disasters. "To have the CCF, a non-governmental organization, as one of our close partners, will enhance the outreach and impact of UNDP's assistance projects in China, particularly those at the grassroots level that needs help," said Kerstin Leitner, UNDP Resident Representative in China. The UNDP has cooperated closely with the Chinese Government in poverty alleviation, advancement of women, environment protection and energy projects since 1979, she added. The CCF's President Yan Mingfu said that the CCF has joined hands with UNDP in many anti-disaster projects and the cooperation between the two is expected to improve with this document. The CCF, a nationwide non-governmental charity organization, was founded in 1994 and now has an extensive nationwide network to deliver assistance and services to the poor and disaster victims. It has engaged in many disaster relief programs in China. Yan said that about 30 million yuan has been collected to aid the blizzard-hit Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia so far.
