China's Ten IT Figures of 2000 Awarded in Beijing
The selection result of "CEC Telecom Cup Appraisal of China's 10 IT Figures of 2000" was announced in the award-giving meeting in Beijing on January 22.
China's 10 IT figures of 2000 respectively are: Tian Suning, Song Ruhua, Li Zhigao, Zhao Chaoyang, Yang Lan, Wang Zhidong, Lei Jun, Ding Lei, Yang Yuanqing, and Richard Li Tzar-kai.
This activity received the strong backing of many news media. Altogether 27 news media, including China Youth Daily, published the votes and over 10 websites including Sina.com put a link to this activity.
This activity has received altogether 146,157 valid votes from 33 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and special administrative regions in China including Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, and 16 countries such as the United States, Britain, and Canada. Thus, the 10 IT figures of 2000 were selected from among 40 recommended candidates.
