Austria, China Renew MOU on Agricultural Cooperation

Austria and China renewed Thursday a memorandum of understanding on agricultural cooperation, which was first signed in 1994, to further develop their cooperation and exchanges in farming techniques.

The validity period of the memo, signed by visiting Chinese Vice Minister of Agriculture Wan Baorui and an Austrian senior official of the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry, Werner Wutscher, will last for five years.

Under the agreement, the two countries will conduct cooperative research and exchanges in farming techniques by swapping technological information, documentary materials, trade journals, scientific payoffs and experts.

An annex of the memo listed the areas of cooperation, covering animal breeding, vaccination and quarantine, early prognostication of plant diseases and insect pests, and fruit and vegetable plantation and marketing.

China will send professionals to Austria to receive training.

Before the signing ceremony, Austrian Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Wilhelm Molterer met Wan, exchanging notes on jointly establishing an experimental farm.
