Guangxi to Build More Expressways

South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has decided to build more expressways in the next few years.

Sources from the regional bureau of communications said that expressways in Guangxi will total 1,300 kilometers by 2005.

The expressways that will start construction this year include Nanning-Wuzhou, Nanning-Tanluo and Hepu-Shankou expressways.

Workers have now been constructing Xingye-Liujing Expressway in southeastern part of Guangxi. The expressway is estimated to cost 280 million U.S. dollars and will take three years to accomplish, said the sources.

Guangxi now has 812 kilometers of expressway in operation, including the 652-kilometer expressway from Guilin, a well-known tourist city, to Beihai, a port city on Beibu Gulf, the 113- kilometer expressway from Yizhou to Liuzhou, a major industrial city in Guangxi, and 21-kilometer Nanning-Wuxu expressway, a section of the Hengyang-Pingxiang state highway.
