DPRK Condemns US NMD Program as Threat to World Peace

An official newspaper said in a commentary Thursday that the US development of the national missile defense system (NMD) will pose a grave threat to world peace.

The newspaper, Rodong Sinmun, said that the new US government 's move to consider developing the NMD system as the main thrust of its "national defense strategy" has caused serious worldwide concerns.

The US NMD program is a replica of the "Star Wars" project and "a very dangerous move to build up an anti-missile network to threaten other countries and dominate the world," it said.

The newspaper said the US claim that the establishment of the NMD is for its "national security" is "nothing but sophism intended to cover up the aggressive and dangerous nature of the move." It said there, actually, exists no missile or any other form of military threat to the United States around the world.

Recalling that the United States described the DPRK as the most "dangerous state," the newspaper dismissed this as sheer nonsense.
