Bustling Wangfujing Ave. Witnesses Another Public Campaign for Beijing BidModels, university students, artists and ordinary employees joined forces on a freezing and foggy Thursday in one of Beijing's most bustling avenues to express their support for the city's bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games.The mass gathering activity in the Wangfujing Avenue on the second of four-day inspection of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) evaluation commission was the latest of "I Support Beijing Bid" campaign initiated by a non-governmental arts and crafts company in Beijing. In an open-air fashion show, models dressed up in garments made from a huge piece of red silk on which more than 20,000 Chinese and foreign well-wishers signed their names to demonstrate their Olympic eagerness. A dozen of well-known local artists improvised a traditional Chinese painting "Splendid Future" and wished Beijing good luck on July 13 when the IOC members make the final decision among five candidate cities including Toronto, Paris, Istanbul and Osaka. University students, in various ethnic dresses, and employees from local companies shouted slogan "I Support Beijing Bid", offering their "hearty desire" to see the 2008 Games staged in the capital of the world most populous country. |
