Chief of PLA General Staff Meets Singapore Minister of Defense

Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army, met Thursday with Second Minister for Defense Teo Chee Hean of Singapore, who is also education minister.

Fu, who is also a member of the Central Military Commission, noted that China and Singapore have seen smooth growth of state and military relations since the two countries established full diplomatic ties. That has resulted in a better understanding of each other and enhanced friendship.

In the new century, Fu said, China hopes to work with Singapore to push forward bilateral military ties.

In addition, the chief of general staff said China hopes Singapore would continue with its one-China policy for a healthy development of China-Singapore relations.

Teo Chee Hean said his current visit to China has been quite "fruitful" and will help promote relations between the two armies and the two countries. He pledged that Singapore will stick to the one-China policy.
