China Philharmonic Orchestra to Stage Shostakovich

Conducted by Zhang Guoyong, China Philharmonic Orchestra is to stage a Shostakovich concert in Beijing Poly Theatre February 25.

Former USSR composer Dmitri Shostakovich has been acknowledged to play a significant role in music development during the 20th century. His fifteen symphonies are always considered to be the acme of symphonic creation in that era.

Festive Overture, created on the 37th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution, Symphony No. 11 in G minor "The Year 1905", and some others by Shostakovich will be among the masterpieces to be staged in the concert.

Zhang Guoyong is professor with the conductor department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, conductor with Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. Learned from Cennody Rozhestvensky, Zhang was honored with DM at Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music.
