Poland: Russian Missile Shield Plan Lacks Concrete ContentPolish Defense Minister Bronislaw Komorowski said Wednesday that Russia's plan for a European missile defense system was "merely a political signal, rather than a concrete technical proposal."In a radio interview here, the defense minister said: "The secretary general of NATO (the Northern Atlantic Treaty Organization), on one hand, is interested in this proposal, but on the other hand, he is very cautious about it," because of the lack of concrete content. The proposal, put forward to NATO by Russian Defense Minister Igor Sergeyev on Tuesday as an alternative to a planned 60 billion dollar U.S. system, should be seen as a political signal, Komorowski said, adding that Russia has neither the financial resources nor technology to establish such an anti-missile defense system. He said that it is doubtful that anybody would come to provide financial support for building such a system. Sergeyev handed over the proposal for Russia's answer to the U. S. National Missile Defense (NMD) system during talks with visiting NATO Secretary General George Robertson.
