Musharraf Receives Letter from Bush Urging Dialogue with India

Pakistani Chief Executive Pervez Musharraf received a letter from the US President George W. Bush Wednesday saying that dialogue between Pakistan and India was vital for resolving their differences, according to a press release from Pakistani Foreign Office.

American Ambassador to Pakistan William Milam called on Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf with the letter which underlined "the shared interests of the two countries in a peaceful and stable South Asia."

Bush applauded in the letter "Pakistan's gesture in sending assistance for earthquake relief to India" and "the direct (telephonic) contact between the Chief Executive and the Indian Prime Minister."

He also appreciated the long history of co-operation and goodwill between Pakistan and the US while hoping for better bilateral relations.

It was Bush's first official letter to Musharraf in response to an earlier one from the general.

It was also reported that US Congressman Joseph Pitts had met with several Indian leaders urging them to take some steps for the resumption of peace process between the two rivals.
