"Spring Bud" Program Helps over One Million Female Dropouts

The "Spring Bud" Program, a national campaign to help female school dropouts in poor areas, has helped over one million girl students continue with their studies since it was launched in 1989.

An official with the China Children and Teenagers Fund (CCTF), the initiator of the program, said that it has collected over 330 million yuan (US$39.76 million) in the past decade.

"Spring Bud" now covers 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and has developed into a national program with the goal of having all girl drop-outs return to school and complete nine years of compulsory education.
