DPRK Blasts Japan Over Politician's Remarks on War

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) Tuesday condemned Japan's "reactionaries" for their attempts to whitewash and justify the country's war of aggression in the past.

The attack was made in response to remarks by Hosei Norota, chairman of Japan's lower house budget committee and former director general of the Defense Agency.

Norota on Sunday told Liberal Democratic Party supporters in Noshiro, Akita, that Japan helped Asia rid of colonialism during World War II. He referred to World War II as the "Greater East Asia war," a term employed by Japan's Imperial Army to justify its war of aggression against other Asian countries.

The official Korean Central News Agency, in a commentary, said that Norota's remarks prove that he is keen on realizing the old dream of the "Greater East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere."

"Japan's history of aggression is still fresh in the memory of the Korean and other Asian peoples. They will heighten vigilance against the Japanese reactionaries' ambition for militarist aggression," said the commentary.
