Tianjin Promotion Week to Be Staged in HK

Tianjin Week, a series of promotion activities held by China's port city of Tianjin, will be staged next month in Hong Kong, an official of the Tianjin municipal government announced Tuesday.

The event, a large-scale promotion campaign following a nine- day Hong Kong Week held last year in Tianjin, will showcase Tianjin's latest developments since the opening up and reform policy was introduced, said Wang Shuzu, vice-major of Tianjin.

The promotion week, to be opened in March 28 and end in April 3, include a wide variety of activities, such as business talks, fashion shows, Beijing Opera performance, forums on operation between the two cities in IT, finance, and other sectors.

Those activities are aimed at enhancing the understanding of Hong Kong people of Tianjin and seeking possible cooperation in the fields like IT, tourism, textile and high-tech, said Wang Shuzu.

By the end of 2000, the number of ventures financed by Hong Kong business people in Tianjin had reached 4,930, with a total investment of 14.36 billion U.S. dollars, according to Wang.

During the 2001 Tianjin Week, the city will offer 220 projects for Hong Kong investment, including some infrastructure, real estate and high-tech projects, Wang said.
