Hamas Activist Killed by Israeli Shots in West Bank

A leading figure of Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, has died of wounds in the chest shot by Israeli troops on Monday in the West Bank, resources said.

Mohamed al-Madani, 25, was seriously injured by Israeli troops near Balata refugee camp in the West Bank town of Nablus.

He was hit on the way back from a nearby mosque to his house by three shots in the chest, apparently fired from an Israeli army post, according to eyewitnesses.

The Palestinian side has been accusing Israel of "pinpoint killing" of Palestinian activists in an effort to crack down on intifada, or Palestinian uprising.

So far, more than 410 people have been killed in the nearly five months of bloody clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinian protestors, sparked by Israeli right-wing Likud party leader Ariel Sharon's violation of an Islamic holy site in East Jerusalem last September.
