Indonesia Condemns US-British Air Strikes on IraqIndonesia Monday condemned the latest US and British air strikes on Iraq and urged all parties to refrain from violence."This bombing attack heightens the suffering and misery of civilians caused by the protracted embargo against Iraq," the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a press release. The attacks have increased the suffering of Iraqis already suffering from the effects of prolonged economic sanctions, it added. The release said the raids should not happen again because they were not in line with international law and resulted in the deaths of civilians. "Because of this, the Indonesian government urges that similar bombing attacks should not be launched again. Indonesia asks all sides to refrain from using violent actions which result in the deaths of innocent civilians. What is more, actions like this are against the principles of international law," the release was quoted by the Indonesian Observer Tuesday as saying. The release also said the Indonesian government asks Iraq to obey all stipulations "in relevant United Nations resolutions and all agreements it has struck with the world body." U.S. and British fighters bombed radar and military command centers near Baghdad late Friday, killing three people and injuring 30 others. |
