Greek-Turkish Cooperation Has Been Deepened, Says PapandreouThe cooperation between Greece and Turkey has been deepened following the political message given at the time of the strong earthquakes and the signing of several cooperative agreements in the fields such as culture, tourism and the environment, Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou said Monday, February 19.Addressing an event concerning the establishment of the Greek- Turkish Chamber of Commerce, Papandreou said that bilateral cooperation has now reached to the point of expanding to energy, natural gas, power supply and agricultural issues. He said that cooperation has contributed to stability in the region and the Greek-Turkish Chamber of Commerce constitutes a corridor of exchanges between the two countries and promotes bilateral relations. Greece and Turkey will try to sign an agreement on the avoidance of double taxation, said Papandreou. In a related development, Greek government spokesman Dimitris Reppas on Monday expressed Athens' wish for cooperation to be achieved among all forces and political parties in Turkey for the neighboring country to become a modern state of law. He noted that Turkey must meet a big challenge and draw up its own national text within the framework of its European Union (EU) partnership relations. |
