Lebanese Official Condemns US Air Strikes Against IraqA Lebanese official on Monday denounced US recent air raids against Iraq as continuation of its double standards regarding Middle East issues, Lebanon's official NNA news agency reported."The only thing that the US got from the air raids is to put its intervention policy into an awkward position and deteriorate the situation in the Mideast region," Minister of State Beshara Merhej said. Merhej said the Arab people were waiting for the new US administration to take part in the Middle East peace process with a more neutral stance. "But the bombings have proved that the US will not change its double standards in the Middle East," he said, adding that "it has said nothing about Israel's brutality against the Palestinian people, but launched a new air raid on Iraq." Friday evening, US and British warplanes attacked communications and air defense targets, killing two people and wounding 20 others. The Lebanese minister said that Washington's pretext of protecting the US and British forces has not persuaded anyone but Britain and Israel. "From Paris to Moscow and from Tehran to Ankara, we can see the reactions against the air raids on the Iraqi people," he stressed. Merhej also called for solidarity within the Arab world and warned of "American trap for the Arab countries." |
