Disaster Relief Distributed in Snowstorm-hit Inner Mongolia

People in the blizzard-attacked Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region got grain, clothes and fodder from local governments to weather through the hard times.

The autonomous region so far has appropriated about 22.6 million yuan (US$2.7 million) and about 4,500 sets of cotton-padded coats to the people. The Xilin Gol League, one of the areas most heavily hit by the snowstorms, lent local people more than 5 million kilograms of grains.

The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region in north China has undergone an atrocious snowstorm which was rare over the past four decades.

The local government has delivered 133 million kilograms of forage and 79 million kilograms of fodder in order to rescue livestock which are facing a shortage of food due to the heavy snow.

To reduce economic losses caused by the disaster, the governments of leagues and banners decided to help local people sell more livestock. Already about 25.8 million heads of livestock have been sold.

Disaster victims were also encouraged to start self-aid production projects to overcome adversity through greater production.
