Musharraf to Attend D-8 Summit in Cairo

Pakistan's Chief Executive General Pervez Musharraf will participate in the third summit meeting of Developing Eight (D-8) being held at Cairo on February 25, spokesman for Foreign Office, Riaz Muhammad Khan told reporters Tuesday.

"A distinctive feature of this Summit is the association of the private sector with D-8 activities and the holding of a D-8 Business Forum meeting in parallel with the Commissioners meeting, " he said, adding that a number of Pakistani businessmen are expected to participate in the Forum.

The Pakistani delegation will include Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar and Commerce Minister Abdul Razzak Dawood, who will arrive in Cairo ahead of the Summit to attend the D-8 Business Forum.

D-8 was founded four years ago in Istanbul and includes Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Malaysia, Indonesia and Nigeria. Summits have already been held in Istanbul in 1997 and in Dhaka in 1999.

The D-8 mainly focuses on economic, trade and technological cooperation among the member states. The Summit also provides an opportunity to review the international economic situation.
