China Dissatisfied with European Parliament Resolution on Religion

China Tuesday expressed great dissatisfaction with a resolution passed recently by the European Parliament which wantonly vilified the religious situation in China.

"The resolution distorted the facts," foreign ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao said in response to the resolution passed by the parliament on religious freedom in China.

"It is an undeniable fact that religious activities have proceeded normally in all parts of China, Tibet inclusive, and the religious undertaking in China has made progress, thanks to the joint efforts of government at all levels," he told a regular press conference.

Falun Gong is a sheer anti-humanity, anti-society and anti science evil cult, he said. "The move made by the Chinese government to ban and attack the cult is exactly aimed at comprehensively protecting the freedom of religious belief of the citizens and protecting human rights."

The Chinese people are indignant at and opposed to some European Parliament members who were boosting the arrogance of such an evil cult, he said.

He said the respect and protection of citizens' freedom of religious belief is a long-term policy of the Chinese government.
