CCB Sees Record Increase of Deposits in January

The China Construction Bank (CCB) announced Tuesday, February 20, that by January 31, the outstanding deposits of the bank reached 934.7 billion yuan, with an increase of 47.2 billion yuan within the month, setting a record for January deposits in the bank's history.

A spokesman for the CCB said that in 2000 the bank made considerable progress in financial innovations in individual banking business industries, laying a solid basis for the rapid growth of deposits.

He said that last year the CCB opened its nationally unified client service telephone number and established call centers in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and other major cities, which enabled its branches to provide local clients with comprehensive account transfer and consultation services.

In addition, the banks' on-line banking functions have been further expanded, adding to it such functions as the Dragon Card on-line payment, online securities trading and individual foreign exchange trading.

He said that the sharp increase in deposits has made a good start for the bank in the new year. The CCB will continue to draw on its advantages in technology and business networks to improve its competitiveness, profitability and market share.
