Kunming Completes Birds Park

A major birds park has been built in this capital city of southwest China's Yunnan Province, known as the "city of spring" for its spring-like weather the year round.

The park, which is set to open to the public next month, lies in the Haigeng Park of Dianchi national tourism and vacationing zone. It covers an area of two hectares and was completed at a total cost of two million yuan (about US$240,000).

The park has a huge bird net of 8,000 square meters. It has such facilities as the Fowl World, the Peacock Park, the Parrot Corridor£¬ the Peacock Performance Yard, the Swan Lake and the Mandarin Duck Brook. The facilities were built in the light of habits and characteristics of different bird species and landform of the park.

The park will exhibit some 100 rare bird species. Visitors will be able to view 3,000 birds in the first phase of construction. The number is expected to increase to 5,000 after the second phase of construction is completed.

The park will serve as a window to display the advantage of Yunnan as the "kingdom of plants and animals."
