More than 3,000 to Take Part in East Asian Games

More than 3,000 athletes and officials from ten countries and regions have confirmed their participation in the East Asian Games, organizers said Tuesday, February 20.

The total takeing part in the May 19-27 games in Osaka includes 2,357 athletes and 749 officials as of Monday, the deadline for entry, said Kiyokazu Kitatani, a spokesman for the East Asian Games Organizing Committee.

The East Asian Games take place every four years in the year following the Summer Olympics.

A total of 17 events will be held at 18 locations in Osaka during the games, Kitatani said.

Host Japan will field 509 athletes and officials, the largest contingent, followed by Chinese Taipei with 487, China with 444, South Korea with 392 and Australia with 370, the organizers said.
