Iran, Poland Ready to Expand Bilateral Ties
Iranian President Mohammad Khatami said Monday that the visit by Polish Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Bartoszewski will prepare the grounds for the development of the bilateral relations.
Khatami made the remarks during a meeting with Bartoszewski, who arrived here for an official visit Saturday, Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.
Khatami said the two countries have great potentials in cooperation in the economic, political and cultural fields, which should be utilized to meet the needs of both sides.
Underlining the need to explore new avenues for cooperation, the president said "our common experience of establishing a democratic system of government, our common goals and interests require the two countries to have better relations in the future."
He expressed satisfaction with activities of Poland regarding the issue of "dialog among civilizations," expressing hope that dialog would replace hostilities and hatred which turned the past century into a bitter one coupled with conflicts, chaos and discrimination.
During the meeting, Bartoszewski delivered to Khatami an invitation from Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski to visit Poland.
Poland has been following the current developments and reforms in Iran over the past four years, Bartoszewski said, adding that Poland is determined to cooperate with Iran as it is a regional power in cultural, social, economic and political areas.
He called for further exchanges of visits between the two countries at various levels, as well as a joint campaign against crimes and drug trafficking.
