More Room for Netherlands-China Educational Cooperation

The Netherlands and China have a bright future for educational cooperation, said Loek Hermans, minister of education, culture and science of the Netherlands, Monday.

The Netherlands will continue to offer scholarship to Chinese students, and the higher education exchanges between the two countries will expand, he told reporters after attending the Sino- Dutch Higher Education Matchmaking Conference.

Hermans said that the cooperation between the Netherlands and China in the educational field has been fruitful in recent years, especially in higher education.

He was referring to the Delta fund, established early this year to enroll outstanding students from China, Indonesia and South Africa.

Besides, related institutes of both countries signed an agreement Sunday to set up an educational support office in China to offer scholarships to Chinese students.

Hermans said that international cooperation in higher education will be strengthened. The Netherlands takes China as its priority for cooperation, for China has a long history and has developed rapidly in science and higher education.

He vowed to further the cooperation of the two countries in this regard.

Hermans arrived here February 17, with the purpose of improving the cooperation between educational institutes of the two countries, introducing the higher education in the Netherlands, and cementing ties in education, science and commerce with China.
