Chinese Senior Officer Holds Talks with Singaporean GuestChina is opposed to any countries having diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China to develop official relations with Taiwan, said a Chinese senior officer.Guo Boxiong, executive deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), made the point during talks with Teo Chee Hean, Singaporean second minister for defense. Guo, also a member of the Central Military Commission, reaffirmed that Chinese government's stance on the Taiwan issue is clear and consistent. "We hope that the related countries shall keep alert for the political attempt of the Taiwan authorities of splitting from the motherland, and observe one-China commitment." He noted that Chinese military force has valued the friendly relations with its Singoporean counterpart and hopes to develop the relations in the new century. "Because it conforms to the fundamental interest of the people of the two countries, and benefits regional peace and development, " he added. Teo Chee Hean said that Singapore and China have conducted cooperation in the political, trade and educational fields, and have maintained sound relations on defense and security. He said Singapore adheres to the one-China stance, and has held that Taiwan is a part of Chinese territory. He hopes his visit would promote mutual understanding and cooperation. |
