Russian President to Visit S. Korea Next Week

Russian President Vladimir Putin will make a two-day state visit to South Korea starting on February 27, South Korean presidential spokesman Park Joon-young said Monday.

President Kim Dae-jung and Putin will hold a summit on February 27 after his arrival.

Kim and Putin will evaluate bilateral relations since diplomatic normalization in 1990 and address recent changes in inter-Korean relations and on the Korean Peninsula, said the spokesman.

The two presidents will also discuss projects for economic cooperation, such as connecting the inter-Korean railway with the Trans-Siberian railroad, added the spokesman.

During his two-day stay, Putin is expected to meet South Korea Prime Minister Lee Han-dong and business leaders and to give a speech at the South Korean National Assembly, or parliament.

It will be Putin's first South Korean visit as Russian president.
