China Publishes Selection of Foreign Environment Laws

The recently published Selection of Occidental Environment Law, the first of its kind in China, was presented to the Environment and Resources Protection Committee of the National People's Congress Monday.

The 1.2 million-word selection included 30 important foreign environment laws since the 1990s in 10 developed countries, namely, the United States, Australia, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden and Singapore.

Qu Geping, chairman of the Environment and Resources Protection Committee, said at Monday's presentation ceremony that the book can serve as a reference for China's legislation in terms of environmental protection.

Wang Yuqing, deputy director of the State Environmental Protection Administration, said "China has devoted considerable efforts to borrow from foreign legislating practices and combine them with our own actual situation."

It took Zhongxin Environmental Management Consulting Co., Ltd., the publisher, two years to publish the book.
