Myanmar Leader Killed in Helicopter Crash

Second Secretary of the Myanmar State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) Lieutenant-General Tin Oo was killed in a helicopter crash Monday morning, state-run Radio Myanmar reported.

Tin Oo was also Chief of Bureau of Special Operations and Chief of Staff of the Army.

One government official was also dead in the crash, it said.

The helicopter, which carried 22 other Myanmar government officials including the Chairman of the Mon SPDC and Southeastern Commander and Minister at the Prime Minister's Office Brigadier- General Lun Maung, crashed into the Thanlwin River when it was heading for Hpa-an in Kayin state from Mawlamyine in Mon state.

The report said the accident, which took place near Hpa-an, was due to bad weather conditions.

It added that 11 other officials and two crew members were rescued and 14 others still missing
