Tianjin Grants Permanent Residence to Foreign Nationals

Director of the Public Security Bureau of Tianjin Xiao Fengxiang on February 15 granted certificates for the qualification of permanent residence in China to four foreigners who have made commendable contributions to Tianjin's economy.

In accordance with Chinese law, a foreigner acquired the qualification is entitled to enjoy the most favorable treatment when entering and exiting Chinese land, as well as travelling and residing in China. His spouse and children can also be approved to take up residence in China.

One of the foreigners is Malaysian Pin Yong Lai, senior vice-president of the Motorola Inc. and president of the Motorola (China) Electronic Co., Ltd., under whose effort Motorola added an investment of US$1.9bn to Tianjin last August.

The other three are: Pung Jo Kwon from the Republic of Korea (ROK), vice president of LG Chemical Ltd and president of LG China division; Tamura Tadashi from Japan, director of the business department of Mitsumi Electric Co., Ltd and general manager of Mitsumi Tianjin division; Ho Bon Jun from ROK, chairman and general manager of Samsung (Tianjin) Electro-Mechanics Co. Ltd.

It is the third time Tianjin grants permanent residence to foreigners and so far there are altogether five foreign nationals having thus been honored, including the world-renowned mathematician Prof. Shiing-shen Chern.
