China to Push Inter-Banking Net Service

Dai Xianglong, governor of the People's Bank of China told February 16 that China is to regulate business, technical standards and name brand signs in coming three years and convenient, quick and safe inter-banking services will be provided between large and medium-sized cities.

According to statistics, by the end of 2000, China had altogether 125,000 banking service and over 100,000 business centers, stores, hotels and restaurants dealing with banking cards, along with over 37,000 Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) and near 290,000 Point of Sells machines (POS).

It is said that by the end of this year, the business dealing systems of commercial banks are required to have the ability to deal with banking cards with a unified sign and all POS machines on markets by the end of 2002. Banking cards of commercial banks with unified mark will be issued in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou.
