Arab lawyers Condemns US-British Strike Against Iraq
A Cairo-based organization of Arab lawyers here on Sunday issues a statement, condemning US- British air raids on Iraq Friday night which have caused innocent casualties.
The Association of Arab Bar said that the bombings, which have killed two Iraqi civilians and injured at least 20 others, "were brutal aggressions against the Iraqi people," the state-run MENA news agency reported.
The criminal acts were "contrary to the international law and the UN chapters," the lawyers said, adding that they were meanwhile "flagrantly" infringing upon Iraq's sovereignty and security.
The organization called for enhancing unity among the Arab countries to struggle against the US-led hegemony.
According to the Pentagon, 24 US and British warplanes struck five Iraqi military targets, eight to 32 kilometers from the Iraqi capital Baghdad, using various long-range precision-guided weapons.
The attack, dubbed by the US a "routine mission," was the first on the Iraqi capital since December 1998, when the US and Britain launched a four-day bombardment against Iraq for its alleged refusal to cooperate with UN arms inspectors.
This was also the first air strike against Iraq ordered by US President George W. Bush.
