Greek Political Parties Criticize US-British Air Raids on IraqThree Greek political parties Saturday strongly criticized the air raids carried out against Baghdad by the US and Britain.Describing the air raids as "criminal," the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) said in a statement that their perpetrators should be punished. "The murderers of the Iraqi people and their children, who are dying due to the impact of an embargo and radiation-bearing weapons, should not go unpunished," the KKE said. The KKE called for the withdrawal by Greece of NATO. The Coalition of the Left and Progress Saturday accused the US and British governments of using terror tactics in the Middle East at a time when a bid for peace in the region was sorely tried. The party urged the Greek government to condemn the air strikes. The Democratic Social Movement criticized the United Nations, the European Union (EU) and other international groups for remaining silent over what it called "a disgrace to humanity" and serving the interests of the West instead of working for human rights and international law. US and British warplanes launched the air strikes Friday evening against Iraqi targets outside the no-fly zones. This was the first air strike against Iraqi targets outside the no-fly zones since the new US Administration headed by President George W. Bush took office on January 20.
