NE Chinese Provinces Open New Land-Water Outlet
Construction on part of a railway road linking northeast China's Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces commenced recently in an effort to open a new land-water outlet for export.
The 310-kilometer railway line starts from Hunchun in Jilin and ends in Dongning County, a border city in eastern Heilongjiang Province. The project is expected to be finished in three years.
Dongning is the largest port for motor vehicles on the Chinese- Russian border. When the railway opens to traffic, it will be connected with the Russian railway network, and Chinese goods can be shipped to other countries via sea routes from Russian ports.
