Central Chinese Province Has New Governor

Zhang Guoguang, 56, was elected governor of central China's Hubei Province Sunday.

Zhang won the election at the fourth plenary session of the Ninth Hubei Provincial People's Congress, which ended here Sunday.

Zhang, born in 1945, is a native of Suizhong, northeast China's Liaoning Province.

Zhang served as governor of Liaoning between 1998 and 2001.

He was appointed deputy secretary and Standing Committee member of the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China and made vice-governor and acting governor of Hubei in 2001.

Also at the meeting, Zhang Hongxiang, 61, was elected vice- chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hubei Provincial People' s Congress.
