UN Members Urged to Assist in Peacekeeping MissionsChristen Koerner, U.N. Information Centre Director in Harare, Friday urged member states to assist the United Nations in peacekeeping missions."The United Nations is struggling to support all its peacekeeping operations and needs the assistance of member states, " Koerner told 34 participants after they completed a three-week U. N. military observer course in Harare. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) nations are faced with a challenge of maintaining peace and stability within their territories, she said. According to Koerner, efforts are being made to include more women and civilians in the training programs. She commended three women who graduated saying it is an encouragement for all women in the SADC region. The graduates are drawn from Botswana, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Seychelles, Mozambique, Namibia, Lesotho and Mauritius. |
