Japan Ruling Partner Undecided on Confidence Vote

Pressure on Japanese Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori to quit rose on Friday when a coalition partner whose backing is crucial warned his party would not automatically vote against a no-confidence motion.

"Science in China" theatrical performance was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Feb 16. He Zuoxiu (right) and Wang Chenwei (right), famous scientist and academician of China, and Guan Huai, famous opera actor, performed Beijing opera together.  

US & British Aircraft Attacked Targets Near Baghdadon

US Marine Lieutenant-General Gregory Newbold fields a question in the Pentagon briefing room during a press conference about the air strikes on Iraq February 16, 2001. U.S. and British planes hit Iraqi air defenses outside the no-fly zone south of Baghdad on Friday. Newbold said "we think we've accomplished what we were looking for...to degrade, disrupt the ability of the Iraqi air defenses to coordinate attacks against our aircraft.'' 

Chinese President Meets Japanese Trade Union Delegation

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met with Washio Etsuya, president of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation, Friday afternoon. Jiang said the trade unions of both countries have made positive contributions to the normalization of diplomatic relations. Looking into the new century, friendly contacts between the Chinese and Japanese trade unions should be further reinforced as overall bilateral ties have entered a new development era. 

Bush Arrives in Mexico for "Ranchers' Meeting"

U.S. President George W. Bush arrived Friday morning in Mexico to participate in "the ranchers' meeting," as part of his first visit abroad since assuming the presidency on January 20. Bush arrived at 16:03 hours GMT to Bajio International Airport, Leon city, in the northwestern Mexican state of Guanajuato, where he was greeted by his Mexican counterpart Vicente Fox.

Another Falun Gong Follower Immolated in Beijing

Falun Gong cult member 25-year-old Tan Yihui, male, from southern China's Hunan Province, set himself ablaze at mid-day on February 16 in western Beijing. He died immediately. Tan said in a letter he wrote before he died that he wanted to end his life to be ``a brave warrior'' for Li Hongzhi, ringhead of Falun Gong, and "return to heaven".
