Li Yongjin Elected Mayor of Dalian

Li Yongjin was elected Friday the mayor of Dalian, a port city in Liaoning Province, northeast China.

The result was announced at the fourth session of the 12th People's Congress of Dalian, which closed Friday.

Li, born in 1944 in Neijiang County, southwest China's Sichuan Province, was enrolled by Beijing Chemical Engineering Institute in 1963.

Li served as technician, deputy director and manager of Dalian Chemical Plant and Dalian Chemical Industry Co. before he was elected as vice-mayor of Dalian in February 1991.

Li became deputy secretary of the Dalian City Committee of the Communist Party of China and acting mayor of the city in August 2000.
