More People Intending to Buy Cars: Survey

According to a survey conducted last year in 22 Chinese cities including Beijing and Shanghai on city people's attitude toward life, 8.2 percent of families already have private cars; the market value of private cars purchased in these cities in 2000 amount to 21 billion yuan and the prospect of private car purchase in these cities. looks promising.

The rate of intended purchase of private cars in the 22 cites in 2001 will see a big increase due to the wide choice of new family cars like Sail and Xiali 2000 as well as people's anticipation of a price reduction for cars after China's entry into the WTO. About 2.1 percent of people intend to buy mini-cars, 1.5 percentage points high than last year, and the purchase amount is expected to rise by 239 percent; 1.2 percent of people will be inclined to buy mini-buses, therefore the purchase amount is anticipated to rise by 128 percent. The purchase intent rate of all types of cars will total 4.8 percent. Then, about 64-billion-yuan will be spent on purchasing 890,000 cars for private use in the 22 cities in 2001.
