According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), agricultural websites have achieved a fast growth in China and these have developed from 200 two years ago to current 2200, operating in 18 categories and 127 subsidiary ones, releasing major information on China's agriculture and rural economy.

As reported, China's agriculture has been on way of fast growth and informationalization in recent years. Websites have played a significant role in spreading agricultural information, providing scientific and technology service and guiding agricultural production. A survey conducted by the information center under MOA revealed that some 1600 agricultural websites have been in sound growth, scattered in Beijing and coastal provinces in China. Beijing and Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shangdong and Guangdong provinces have websites to make up half of China's, leaving the rest with only 14 percent. Out of their totality, 37 percent of websites are by agricultural enterprises and 17.45 percent by institutional departments, leaving another 16.4 percent in the category of science and education.
