China to Hold Fourth Hydropower Facilities Expo

China will hold the fourth International Water Resources and Hydropower Technology & Equipment Exhibition in Beijing on September 18-21, according to Zhang Jiyao, vice minister of Water Resources.

Zhang said that the central government will invest 25 billion to 30 billion yuan in water conservancy projects this year and the figure is expected to increase a bit with the development of western China.

The increase of government investment in water conservancy projects, especially in the use of advanced technologies, will provide a promising market for domestic and overseas companies related.

And, the expo will be centered on technologies and equipment for efficient irrigation, flood control, water supply and the construction of hydropower plants, Zhang said.

China plans to increase its irrigated farmland by 6.67 million hectares in the coming five years, and thus more advanced technologies and equipment are needed, Zhang said.

International cooperation is also required for the power projects being built at the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River and Xiaolangdi of the Yellow River as well as for the project to divert water from the south to the north, he noted.

The expo is sponsored by the Ministry of Water Resources and co- organized by E.J. Krause & Associates Inc., a leading US-based exhibition organizer.

The first International Water Resources and Hydropower Technology & Equipment Exhibition was held in China in 1989.
