Chinese, Japanese Trade Union Leaders Discuss Relations

China's trade unions has attached great importance to the friendly ties and wish to further the cooperation with the Japanese counterparts, a top Chinese trade union leader said Thursday.

Wei Jianxing, chairman of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU), made the remarks in a meeting with Washio Etsuya, president of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation, and Yamagishi Akira and Ashida Jinnosuke, former presidents of the confederation.

Extending warm welcome to the guests, Wei, also a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that developing the friendly relations between the trade unions of the two neighboring countries is conducive to the interests of the people.

China and Japan differ in national conditions, social systems, and economic development levels, Wei noted, stressing that these differences will not hinder the development of the friendly cooperation between the trade unions between the two countries.

So long as the two sides proceed from the overall friendship between the two peoples, the friendly cooperative relationship can be furthered on the basis of mutual understanding, mutual respect, seeking common ground while reserving differences, and joint efforts, Wei noted.

Wei also briefed the Japanese guests on China's current political and economic situation and the work of Chinese trade unions.

Washio Etsuya said that the friendship between the trade unions is important to the two countries and their people, adding that he hopes the two sides will learn from each other and continue to deepen their exchange and cooperation.

The Japanese guests are here to attend the opening ceremony of the "Stele of Friendship between Chinese and Japanese Workers" at the invitation of the ACFTU.
