Chinese FM Spokesman on Human Rights Issues

Facts show that the only way to settle the difference among nations on the human rights issues is to conduct dialogue on the basis of equality and mutual respect, and confrontation has no way out.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhu Bangzao made the remarks Thursday, February 15, at a regular press conference, in response to a reporter's question which claimed that some U.S. congressmen pushed the Bush administration to sponsor a human rights resolution criticizing China at the UN Human Rights Commission conference of this year.

Zhu said that as known to all, the western countries have lodged nine anti-China motions at UN Human Rights Commission conferences since 1990, and their acts intervened the normal work of the conference, and incurred the opposition of the developing countries, and came to failure.

"We hope that the countries concerned would take into full account the human rights issues before they take any action," the spokesman said.
