El Salvador Quake Kills at Least 255The death toll of Tuesday's earthquake in El Salvador has increased to 255; with 2,261 wounded and a total of 83,435 people were affected in the quake, the El Salvador National Emergency Committee (COEN) reported on Wednesday.Reports coming from San Salvador said that 146 people were killed in the state of Cuscatlan; 52 in San Vicente; 50 in La Paz; four in San Salvador; two in La Libertad, in the center of the country, and one in Morazan, in the east. The people in the most affected zones by the 6.6 degree earthquake on the open-ended Richter scale in the center of the country, spent the night outside their houses fearing more seisms could take place. According to the Geo-technical Research Center (GRC), until Wednesday morning there have been 300 replicas since the Tuesday's earthquake, ranging from 2.0 to 4.0 degrees. Meanwhile, rescue operations continue, with victims still buried in the debris. Guatemala, Nicaragua and the United States and other countries is expected to send people to join the rescue efforts. The central American country suffered a 7.6 degree earthquake on January 13, which left more than 800 deceased and 4,000 wounded. The Salvadoran government announced on Tuesday it will send relief assistance to the affected people soon. |
