All Arab Countries to Attend the Arab Summit in Amman

Arab League (AL) Secretary General Esmat Abdel-Meguid said here Wednesday that all Arab countries will attend the Arab summit in Jordan capital of Amman in March.

Abdel-Meguid, who is attending the Arab-Europe investment meeting in Beirut, made the remarks during the meeting with Lebanese President Emile Lahoud in the day.

Lahoud called on Arab countries to "make earlier preparations in advance so the summit can end with consensus and practical resolutions."

Abdel-Meguid acknowledged that the summit will focus on the new situation in the Middle East, especially after Israeli hardliner Ariel Sharon's win in the premiership election last Tuesday.

However, Abdel-Meguid vowed that "peace is our strategical option regardless Israel's premier, Barak, Sharon or someone else."

He said that all member states will attend the meeting but he did not say if they will participate in the summit or only ministerial meeting.

He also said that "it is time for Arab countries to be united" as the current situation needs "Arab solidarity."

Meanwhile, he revealed that all Arab countries have donated 238 million U.S. dollars to support the Palestinian Intifada (uprising). "It is not enough and we should speed up to aid those who have sacrificed and who are still fighting," he noted.
