One Serb Killed, 3 Wounded in Gunfire Attack on Convoy in Kosovo

One Serb was killed and three others were wounded Tuesday when ethnic Albanians opened fire on a convoy in southern Kosovo carrying Serbs on a shopping trip, Tanjug news agency reported.

The slain man, 42, and the others in the convoy were on a weekly shopping trip to Serbia, said Tanjug. And Ukrainian peacekeepers were escorting the convoy when it was under gunfire attack near the village of Banjica, close to the Macedonian border.

Five ethnic Albanians were arrested in the shooting incident, it added.

Also in the day, three youngsters of a Serbian family were seriously wounded in a mine explosion in the Kosovo municipality of Zubin Potok.

The three, relatives of the Serbian family Djuric in the village of Crepulja in Zubin Potok, were on their way to the woods to gather firewood when their tractor was hit by an anti-tank mine.

The vehicle was completely destroyed in the explosion while the Djurics sustained serious injuries, one of them in critical condition.

The mine was planted by Albanian extremists and the action was premeditated, said Tanjug.

A large number of Zubin Potok residents, gathering in the downtown after the incident, demanded that the international peacekeeping forces protect them from the repeated attacks by Albanian terrorists.
