FM Spokesman on China-India Security Dialogue

The second round of dialogues on security between China and India is the first of its kind at the assistant-ministerial level since the two countries restored and improved bilateral relations, said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhu Bangzao.

On February 8, Chinese delegation headed by Assistant Foreign Minister Wang Yi, attended the dialogues, which was held in New Delhi.

Zhu told a regular press conference here Thursday that the two sides exchanged views on some important issues of their respective interest, proceeding from common aspirations for improving bilateral relations. The talks were held in a frank and friendly way, and the two sides reached agreement on promoting cooperation in the international and regional arena, he said.

He added both sides considered the talks to be helpful in enhancing mutual trust and should be continued.

On the Karmapa issue, Zhu said, China urged India to honor its commitment in this regard. Meanwhile, China expressed concerns about rumors that the Indian government has granted Karmapa the status of refugee, and demanded India to clarify the issue.

India expressed understanding of China's stance on the issue, declaring that India's stance on this issue has not changed.
