Joint Efforts Made to Strengthen Wuhan University

The Ministry of Education (MOE) and the government of Hubei Province have recently signed an agreement to jointly rebuild Wuhan University.

Zhang Guoguang, deputy provincial governor of Hubei and Lu Fuyuan, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education attended the signing ceremony.

In line with the agreement, both sides will invest 400 million yuan respectively as funds for the construction of the university from 2001 to 2003.

Last August 2 saw the appearance of the New Wuhan University (WU) after the merging of the former Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Hydraulic and Electric Engineering, Wuhan Technology University of Survey & Mapping and Hubei Medical University.

At present, the merged WU has by and large realized the unification of organizations, personnel and financial management. Today, WU has, on the basis of readjusting the six colleges and institutes consisting of 49 departments, reorganized into 28 schools and departments comprising of Human Arts, Social Science, Polytechnic, Information, Natural Science and Medicine, featuring some new specialties and technologies..
